A Home for the Homeless: 1 Peter and early Christian communities in the late 1st Century. A 4-part series.
This class combines the life situation and theological strategy of 1 Peter with issues that surround and may define the Church today. The key terms in 1 Peter are "resident aliens" and "visiting strangers." These terms may refer to the situation of residents in the Roman Empire just prior to their conversion to the Christian movement and/or it may refer to their new situation as Christians. But should "resident aliens" or "visiting strangers" describe Christians and churches today? If so, should we begin thinking of ourselves differently and plotting our course through society with a fundamental change in outlook and mission? Led by Donald Heinz.
