Welcome to Faith Lutheran Church’s Faith Adult Christian Education (FACE) series.

For nearly 30 years our church community has been offering FACE classes on a variety of topics and texts—new books, Bible studies, video series, visiting scholars, and denominational study papers and theological explorations. This is a class that all members can enjoy.

This fall we return to an old favorite: the rich stories, images, and theology of the book of Genesis.

Bill Moyers

Bill Moyers

Using resource developed by Bill Moyers and other scholars and theologians, we’re going to embark on an eight-week exploration of what many consider to be one of the seminal pieces of religious literature in history. The stories of Genesis are ancient and poetic, but they are also relevant and alive even in the 21st century.

You are invited to join us for our first class of the Fall starting Wednesday 21 September.  We invite you to join us for dinner at 6 p.m.; a one hour class in the Fellowship Hall until 7:30 p.m., and a closing meditative service that will allow you to still be home by 8 p.m. Remember that Wednesday evenings are Faith’s new default Christian education evening, and so there are other classes running concurrently for new members, confirmands, younger kids, and those who need child care.

If you decide to join us for this class, we have prepared a copy of the readings for the class— the full text of Genesis in the Revised Standard Version english translation. Just remember, there are three requirements for attendees: Come to the study with an open mind and a willingness to be surprised, challenged, and changed; do the short reading assignment before you come to class; and join in lively conversation with your fellow students. There will be lots of different entry points into this exquisite text; and many different teacher/members of Faith Lutheran Church to lead our discussion.

When:  Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (with dinner before class and worship after class)

Where: Faith Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 667 E First Avenue, Chico
