We are Faith Lutheran, a group of people in Chico, CA, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We welcome, without exception, people of any sex, race, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, physical and mental ability, age or station in life. (You can learn more about the national church body via elca.org.)

In popular culture, the word “Evangelical” has recently taken on numerous connotations. In our congregation, we joyfully embrace its traditional meaning: “the good news.”

For us, living in the good news means learning, worshiping, serving and laughing together as we share a vision of life, drawn from over 4000 years of human stories and experiences contained in our holy writings – the Bible. The central figure of our group is the Messiah/the Christ, who has been and continues to be made known in the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus, a peasant laborer from a small town in a Jewish nation some two thousand years ago.

As Lutherans, our group is rooted in the movement begun by a Roman Catholic Monk, Martin Luther, some 450 years ago, that encouraged individuals to engage these sacred writings and to experience the freedom and freely given love from “the source of the universe” – from God. We join this movement by attempting, in our imperfect, human way, to seek justice, to show mercy, and to share this love with all living things from our own place and time.

We hope you will consider joining us on this journey, and discover how the mystery of life is active with you.
