Pastor Ben Colahan, most recently of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, New York has accepted a call to be pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Chico as of July 1. His formal installation will be held on Saturday, August 13 at 11:00a.m. The public is invited to attend, but an RSVP is requested for the catered luncheon to follow immediately after the installation.
Pastor Steven Holm will preach. Dean David Ernat will preside. Clergy and rostered leaders are invited to vest in red.
Among his accomplishments at St. Paul’s, Colahan led the effort to restore an abandoned theater in the Williamsburg neighborhood by bringing together artists and immigrant domestic workers to create a shared space that now serves as a community center for both groups.
“Of all the candidates we interviewed, Pastor Ben clearly stood out as the best fit for our congregation,” said call committee member, Greg Massa. “We’re very excited about the energy, intelligence and passion he brings to Faith Lutheran.”
From being raised by a Mexican immigrant mother to attending Reed College in Portland, Oregon, whose unofficial motto is, “Communism, Atheism, Free Love,” Colahan has spent his life bridging diverse communities and his career finding ways to share Christ’s love with people often marginalized by society. Colahan says about Chico, “I loved that this is a town filled with people of such diverse perspectives, scholars, farmers, outdoors enthusiasts, all working together to make this a great city for everyone. I feel blessed to be part of that shared endeavor.”
