On Sept. 11th, Faith Lutheran will observe the ELCA's annual "God's work. Our hands." Sunday. This year members of Faith will mark the annual day of service by removing trash and recyclables from Teichert Ponds and assisting with the clearing of the area’s east side hiking trail. Participants will meet on September 11th at Faith Lutheran Church at 8:30 am for a blessing and communion. Kid’s Camp for elementary kids and youngers will be provided at the church for parents wanting to participate in the event. Individuals not taking part in the clean-up are welcome to attend the 8:30 am blessing and communion. Clean-up is expected to take approximately two-hours. Lunch will be provided at the church at about 11AM following the clean-up. Participants are reminded to be sure to wear a pair of sturdy shoes and work gloves. As a reminder there will be no 9:30 am service held at the church on Gods work. Our hands Sunday. For more information contact the office or call Doug De Soto at 530-354-1453.

For those who are unable to participate in the cleanup, Social Ministry Team invites you to be a part of God’s Work, Our Hands in two different ways.

#1. We are asking for volunteers to provide "one handed desserts," desserts folks can enjoy with one hand, to feed the volunteers. You can sign up to do so at the God's Work Our Hands table outside." Desserts can be dropped off at the church the day-of, any time before 10:30 AM.

#2. For those who are unable to participate in this year’s Gods work. Our hands event, the Social Ministry Team invites you, as a Lutheran and a constituent, to contact your federal legislators to encourage them to support policies to strengthen our country’s disaster recovery efforts from weather events related to climate change.  Two such policies are the Reforming Disaster Recovery Act (S.2471/H.R. 4707): A bipartisan bill that would, among many changes, increase federal response transparency with community partners, raise commitments to long-term resiliency after reconstruction, and authorize the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Disaster relief program into formal law and the Housing Survivors of Major Disasters Act (s.1605/H.R.3037): A bipartisan bill offering proposals to reduce documentation barriers and bureaucracy for families trying to access FEMA benefits after a disaster. Our Congressional representatives can be reached at: Congressman Doug LaMalfa, 408 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 and Senator Dianne Feinstein, United States Senate, 331 Hart Senate Office Building, Washington, D.C. 20510. Sample letters to indicate why you, as a Christian, are concerned about the stewardship of our earth, that you can customize and send to Congress can be found at: ww.elca.org/advocacy.
