CURRENTLY HIRING: Church Nursery Worker

Reports to: Director of Youth & Service

Overview: The Church Nursery Worker will be expected to supervise children 0 to 10 years of age within the facility. They assist children in appropriate activities during church service and Sunday school. To provide dependable, safe, secure, and nurturing care to the children while at our church. Ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities/characteristics common to children ages 0-10 years.

Hours: Sundays for two to four hours, some Wednesdays one and a half hours and some holidays, hourly wage.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to the first service and leave 15 minutes after the second service

  • Be polite, friendly, and courteous to all children, parents, and volunteers

  • Holding or sitting with and cheerfully interacting with children through games, stories and play

  • Set an example to children of how to behave in worship

  • In the event of an emergency, notify the parent via the communication system, cell phone/pager

  • Stay until the children are secured with a responsible adult

  • Straighten the room and clean any toys/beds before leaving. All toys that have had contact with saliva will require special attention. A sanitizing solution will be available to use in the nursery

  • Work with Director of Youth & Service to develop and implement Sunday school activities

  • Report to Director of Youth & Service any issues which are hindering the carryout of duties or responsibilities

  • Communicate in advance, by phone to Director of Youth & Service

    • Help set up a schedule that guarantees three workers at all shifts via other means once a month to set

    • Any planned absences with an advance two-week notice, or any unplanned absences at least two hours prior to the shift if at all possible

  • You are expected to work all Sundays even if it falls on a holiday. You will have the option to work other church events, i.e. Easter, Christmas, Vacation Bible School, WOW (Worship on Wednesdays) during school year

  • The opportunity for extra work will be announced at least 4 weeks prior to the event. There will always be services on Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.


  • Experience in caring for children between the ages of 0 to 10 with the ability to adapt and interact with a variety of personalities

  • Prefer high school graduate with diploma, or GED

  • Satisfactory completion of background check

  • Must present the results of a current (within 1 year) Tuberculin and current immunizations

  • Satisfactory completion of CPR training for infants and children

  • Three references.

Universal precautions:

  • Responsible for providing age appropriate care which includes changing diapers as needed

  • Escorting to the bathroom

  • Universal precautions should always be used while changing diapers

  • Maintains good hand-washing/hand hygiene after diaper changes and after assisting children with tissues for coughs, sneezes or runny noses

  • Wears latex-free gloves while changing diapers.

Benefit summary:

  • Employee will be under a probationary period of 90 days at the end of which a written review will be conducted where either party may terminate employment without cause. Beyond this a two-week notice is expected

  • Following this, annual reviews will be conducted in April or early May

  • Dependability is essential. Tardiness and excessive absences cannot be tolerated and will result in termination of employment

  • Immediate termination will occur in cases of intentional verbal, physical or emotional abuse or neglect of any child, parent or church member

  • Termination may occur for failure to carry out job duties as described above.

Starting salary is $12.00/hr.
